Another walk in the Beacons

With Easter upon us, it is now the time to stay away from the Pen y Fan area of the Brecon Beacons as it will be just like walking with hundreds of other people who wish to visit the National Park, and 99% of these people only ever want to walk up to Corn Du and Pen y Fan, yet there are so many other great walks which are very rarely visited, in fact today we were out walking for most of the day and only bumped into one couple early on in the day, and a family later on, and had fantastic views all to ourselves.

2013 Welsh Photo Salon

Today I heard the results of the 2013 Welsh Photo Salon held by the Welsh Photographic Federation, I only enter four images this year, and was surprised to hear that all four had been accepted. One was given a 'Highly Commended' and the another one was given 'Best Creative Print'. The Best Creative Print was a composite image made up from my trip to Scotland where the weather was quite damp, so I managed to capture a few moody scenes around Rannoch Moor, and the Nessie was taken at the visitors centre, then with the help of Photoshop I was able to merge the two.

Lauren

At our camera club, we decided to hire a model 'Lauren' for the evening to have a go at some portraiture type shots, this was getting me out of my comfort zone, but I did enjoy having a go and came away with what I think are a few nice shots.

More Snow in the Beacons

We have more snow this weekend in the Beacons making for some nice walking conditions, most of these shots were taken from Fan Frynych looking towards Pen y Fan.

Brecon Point to Point

Today I attended my local Point to Point horse race, weather stayed dry throughout the day but the heavy cloud gave very poor light, but still managed to come away with some good shots.

I have just heard that I have been successful in attaining my AFIAP distinction, this has come from being successful in many International  Photo Salons over the past 18 months.

Bixslade Stone Mine

Today we visited Bixslade Stone Mine in the Forest of Dean. This mine dates back to the 1800's and was worked well into the 1900's producing a large amount of stone, now all what is left is these large voids which have now filled with water.

Website Upgrade

I have just completed updating my Beacon Images website, with a lot of new images plus still retaining some old favourites. The main upgrade was to get rid of any flash components as more and more browsers are refusing to play it. I have also added random image display, so a different image is displayed on each page reload.
